I was checking out who I’d heard from on facebook today when my eyes caught a glimpse of panzerotti being advertised on the side. They were so inviting, so plump, you could almost smell them. I am going to make them before the month is over. I immediately did a search on what I could find out about them. Basically they are cheese filled pouches of dough, deep fried and eaten hot. One finds them in Puglia and other areas in Southern Italy. I’m thinking that I may have to have a whole repertoire of recipes before I visit. Or at least a list of foods that I will be able to hunt down to eat.

Making these may take more than one attempt since we are talking about deep frying. So be ready to hear about the results…

Ron, my husband

I admit sometimes it’s quite hard to figure out what I’m trying to say. It is hardest for my husband, who has to listen to my stories at the day’s end over dinner. We share the office in our house, sitting back to back at computers and every so often he will turn around to see what I’m reading on-line, or writing, or buying, etc. As he reads the text over my shoulder as I write, he often comments on my choice of words, or my sentence structure, or laughs at some big gaffe I have just made.

I do appreciate the help he offers me on this new quest of blogging, but at times it’s like a monkey on my back. I can’t quite shake him. He’s always ‘helping.’ I taught my son that there are three words one should never forget in life which are ‘do no harm.’ But now I have three new words that I often offer to my husband–’don’t help me.’ Yet his help builds my vocabulary, strengthens my grammar, clarifies my story telling skills, so I do my best to resist using my club to get him off. Actually, he is quite friendly–just aggressive in offering his assistance.

This blogging thing is really hard work for me. I’m not a linear thinker all the time. Often I hate to see my thoughts in writing. At times I have to journey along a windy path to get to the end of a story. As hard as I work to speak, it is just as hard to listen. Which is humorous because I think I’m quite a confident preacher. Go figure.

We’ll see as time goes on how well I live with my little primate. Did I mention, I love him?

I have wanted to try this at home for about two years and decided that now is the time. I started it a few days ago and hung it in the fridge downstairs this morning before going to work. It will be ready Christmas Day…boy that will be a treat. I think I will put a whole antipasto tray together after we have Christmas breakfast. I fell in love with duck while in culinary school and now can’t get enough of it. But this may be a stretch for even me. I’ll let you know.

The following video made it look so easy that anyone would try it.

Wednesdays and Thursdays are the days I work which leave me exhausted. I know I am such a wuss. I don’t know what I would do if I had to work 5-8s.

So I have a few thoughts and hope to write this weekend. One being a response to the Detroit article in the NY Times Tuesday.

I spent the fall reading blogs and posting my responses to facebook. It made some people a little bit crazy and if I had been able to sit and blog myself I might have saved a few friendships. But, I didn’t have the focus or the energy to set up this space. So now that the election is over, it’s time to move on.

My real inspiration came from a friend’s daughter, Lizzie, who just sat one day and decided to blog. She didn’t seem to need to spend months thinking about it, she just started.

And so I begin. No more thinking–I plan on doing, or at least writing. Now I’ll relax and try to be more hopeful in this mucky age we live in.

Food is what I really want to think about, write about, continue to learn about. How does one turn the ordinary into the extraordinary?

I’m not much of a writer but every now and then I have something to say. Hopefully this will be a positive outlet for me to write about my thoughts. I may not come often, and it may not be profound, but it will be from the heart.
